population: 140.7 million, ranked 8th in the world, but shrinking by .47% a year. If current growth rate estimates are correct, Nigeria's population will surpass Russia's in 2009.

size: 6,592,800 million square miles, the largest country in the world, almost twice the size of Canada.

health: The average Russian lives 65.9 years. 13% of Russians do not have access to sanitation.

economy: Russia has the seventh largest economy in the world, grwoing at 8.1% a year, but with an inflation rate of 11.9%. 15.8% of Russians live in poverty.

culture: Most of the population, 79.8%, are ethnically Russian. 3.8% are Tatar, and 2% are Ukrainian. The major religions are Russian Orthodox and Islam. Over 60% of Russians do not practice any religious belief. Russia has the second highest divorce rate in the world: 65%.
