All but 4 of the 30 most densely populated cities in the world are located in India, and Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) is the eighth most populated urban area in the world: 17 million people, and an amazing population density of 68,000 people per square mile.

size: 1,222,243 square miles, the seventh largest country in the world, and the third largest in Asia.

health: India has the highest number of people living with Tuberculosis in the world—about 3.5 million. India also has the second largest population of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world—5.1 million. Only 33% of Indians have access to sanitation. 20% of the population is undernourished.

economy: 34.7% of Indians live on less than $1 a day.

culture: Hindi, the primary tongue of 30% of the population, is the most popular language.The country has 21 official languages and over 800 dialects are spoken. 80.5% of Indians are Hindu, 13.4% are Muslim, and 2.3% are Christians.
